Vice Chancellor’s Message

As you explore mansfielduniversitylusaka.com , I hope you will get a sense of MU’s unique strengths. Mansfield University is devoted primarily to professional education, preparing students for rewarding careers that require advanced knowledge and skills. It is one of the nation’s most diverse institutions, with a deep commitment to expanding access and incorporating cultural competencies in every program. It is a family of schools and campuses bound together by a common mission and shared values. Mansfield University prepares students for professional careers of service and leadership in psychology, education, business, law and forensics. Mansfield is committed to the discovery and application of knowledge to improve the lives of people in diverse communities around the world.

Mansfield’s faculty and students view active participation in their communities and professions as an essential part of the educational process. We measure the quality of our scholarship and applied learning opportunities both by traditional academic standards—since 1992 our students and faculty have given more than 2700 presentations at professional conferences and published more than 800 articles and books—but also by the impact our students and faculty have on their professions and in the world. By that second measure we are doing well. Our students contribute more than 1 million hours of service per year through internships and fieldwork. Our alumni touch the lives of millions of people in practically every part of the world. Mansfield has an unusual history.

It has developed over the years through a series of mergers and among several institutions, each of which has enriched our institutional culture. The theme that most clearly stands out throughout this history is one of innovation. For more than 25 years, Mansfield and its legacy institutions have been pioneers in higher education. Our goal is to continue to adapt and change to better meet the needs of our rapidly changing world. As an MU student, you’re never alone. If you need help, have a question, or want to discuss a point in your studies, we encourage you to contact us in writing, by phone, by fax, or by E-mail. Our knowledgeable, caring instructional staff is here to give you a prompt, detailed response. MU is an international university in the true sense: its students come from over 45countries, its faculty from more than 40-with the mix of nationalities increasing every year. The majority of the students are from Europe. But MU’s continuing interest in Central Asia, the Caucasus and the Far East has attracted strong applicants from these parts of the world. And increasingly, MU has also been able to welcome students from North America. In addition, our outreach efforts to countries in transition have brought us students from Africa, the Middle East and Central America and South America. For the academic year beginning in 1994 -2017, we also hope to welcome students from Southeast Asia and Caribbean. Such an international profile is unusual in the sense that very few other universities can claim to have a student and a faculty body within which there is no particular national predominance; this relatively small community offers a richly dense international cross-section. MU’s atmosphere creates special dynamics in the classroom and in the research arena. The university’s particular intellectual style combines emphasis on scholarship, research, critical reflection and social engagement. Through both disciplinary depth and a strong comparative and Tran-disciplinary approach, studies at MU focus on the diverse and changing social, economic, political and legal aspects and needs of different societies.

MU was recognized by World Higher Education Database and International Association of Universities. The MU is an exciting and dynamic environment, a place where aspirations, ambitions and the zeal of intellectual exploration come together. The premises are easily accessible by bus, Car, with a bus stop a few yards from the front door. There are ample teaching classrooms that have been specially designed to comply with health and safety regulations, but provide a comfortable and relaxed environment in which to learn. There is an area set aside for tea/coffee breaks, with comfortable chairs and a free supply of hot or cold drinks and biscuits, that is available at all times. I am very proud to be a part of this community of extraordinary students, faculty, staff and alumni. I invite you to learn more about us, and to explore ways to join us.

Sincerely,
